Once again, "Welcome" to all of you who have arrived since the last Newsletter went out. It is nice to see the park fill up. To those of you new to the park, we hope you will like it here and will make it your park from now on. We like to believe we have a very friendly park. Those of you who have been here for several years can remember what it was like that first year you came. Say "hello" to the "strangers" and introduce yourselves. It is easier for us to do that than it is for them. Let them know that we are glad they decided to come here. Friendliness goes a long way, remember.
The office of Val's Kountry Corral would like you all to know that we are looking forward to the New Year, 2008. Hoping that the Christmas and New Year holidays are enjoyed by everyone. The Winter season is progressing rapidly but the busy season is just beginning. We will soon be welcoming quite a few residents that come after the holidays. Things tend to get busy in the next three months so please keep a close eye on the bulletin board for events coming up in that time period. It is our wish and hope that everyone has a wonderful Winter.
.......... The Management
Tree Trimming in the Rec Hall
There was a good crowd to help trim the Christmas Tree in the Hall. But, then when you offer free donuts, you can usually count on enough help!! Not only the tree got trimmed, but the window sills, plus other areas. Looks very nice. You can see pictures of this project on the park web page: www.kountry-corral.com
Jam Sessions in the Park
We have a few talented people in the park that decided it might be fun to get together and play a little music, sing some songs, read some poetry and just enjoy themselves. This all started a couple of years ago. It has grown to as many as 10 or 12 entertainers now. They play each Saturday at Medlin's, Lot 32 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. These people do not profess to be professionals. They are just having fun playing together. Your talent doesn't have to be music. A few years ago we had a fellow in the park that was a pretty good magician. Do we have one in the park today? Or, maybe a juggler? If so, come up this coming Saturday and have fun with the rest of the performers. It will not be advertised to the general public. So, bring a chair and enjoy an afternoon of entertainment.

We had a lot of very nice outdoor Christmas decorations this year. The judges came up with the usual first, second and third places … and this year added an "honorable mention". The winners were: First place …. Jerry and Ann Wick, Lot 86; Second place …. Wally and Star Weidman, Lot 25; Third place, Jim and Doreen Rigby, Lot 74, and the Honorable Mention went to Harold and Eleanor LaCroix, Lot 97.
.......... Congratulations to all of you!
Christmas Party
A good time was had by all … well, almost all. You see, when you open a present you must show it to everyone. The next person has the option of taking it away from you instead of opening one, however they pick one out for you to open which replaces the one they took away from you …. clear as mud right?!! You should have been there. Then you would understand and you would have had a lot of fun just like those of us who were there! There was plenty of “finger food” to be had as well.
Walkabout Wally
The wandering dog has begun his visits in the Park. I noticed he had some trouble sitting up due to the 30 mph wind we had for a couple of days. I saw he was laying down a couple of times. Those of you who are new to the Park and were not here yet when the first newsletter came out, if Wally shows up, ask your neighbor what you are supposed to do with him. He has a tag around his neck that also explains this.
Cardboard in Dumpster
This is a NO-NO!! Most of you know this. If you have boxes, break them down and put them alongside of the dumpster or keep them until Wednesday and put them at the end of your walk and they will be picked up. Thank you.
50-50 Raffle
The next 50-50 Raffle will begin by the time you read this (we hope!). The drawing will be New Year's Eve at the Rec Hall. You do not need be present. This one should be a good one.

Christmas Dinner
As I write this (Tuesday) there are 53 people signed up for Christmas dinner at the Rec Hall. The bottom line is …. this means a LOT of good food will be there for us! Of course, the turkey and ham are compliments of the Park. Now….remember to take ALL of your dinner service and bring plates…NO TRAYS. If you are not included in those 53 people, you need to get down to the Rec Hall and sign up and list what you will be bringing to eat. Oh, one more thing….we could use some help setting up before the dinner, as well as after for clean up. Since it is Christmas dinner, it will be at 1:00 pm, Christmas Day!
Park Wide Yard Sale
The first Yard Sale of the season drew a pretty good crowd. I talked to several that participated and most of you had a good day. We didn't have a lot out for sale, but took in about $80.00. If you didn't get a chance to set up for that sale, we will be having another one January 12. So, start getting your "stuff" ready. Harriet Kahl, Lot 23, would like to thank those that helped on the gate, as well as those that helped with the food.
Things to Remember
You can get change for the washers and dryers at the office. The Park has the following items for your temporary use: crutches, a wheelchair and a walker. Hopefully, change is the only thing you might ever need!

Ladies Day Out
"This was one of the best Ladies Day outings I have ever attended". This type of comment was made by many who attended this outing. Fifteen ladies from the Park went to the Hidalgo Pumphouse December 7. They were met by a tour guide, watched a very informative 15 minute video, and then were taken on a tour of the Pumphouse. One of the highlights was the "snow villages". There were over 125 miniature buildings on display. The tour guide explained all about the workings of the Pumphouse and how long it was in operation. Marilyn Hays,Lot 6, who is in charge of Ladies Day Out this year, said she was sorry they hadn't invited the men to go with them since they would have enjoyed it as much as the ladies and would have found the workings of the Pumphouse to be very interesting. The tour included the grounds around the area which were beautifully landscaped and butterflies were in abundance. Lunch was at BJ's Brewhouse where the food was delicious.
The following comments might have been heard in 1955. "Have you seen the new cars coming out next year? It won't be long before $2000 will only buy a used one." "If cigarettes keep going up in price, I'm going to quit. A quarter a pack is ridiculous." "Did you hear the post office is thinking about charging a dime just to mail a letter?" "When I started driving, who would have thought gas would someday cost 20 cents a gallon." And, this one that has really come true…."I'm just afraid the Volkswagen car is going to open the door to a whole lot of foreign business."
Adopt-a-Highway Program
Most of you know what this is. Once a month a group of people from this Park go out along the road from the railroad up to Bentsen State Park and pick up the trash that others throw out their car windows as they drive the road. Joe Cordova,Lot 53, is the coordinator of this program. He has asked me to place a notice in the Newsletter for help. Here it is: Needed: FOUR Winter Texans who want to exercise once a month by walking approximately a mile. You will have the extra benefit of exercising your stomach muscles by doing several "bends" during this walk. You will not be timed …. So you can set your own pace. You may feel a little tired and perhaps hungry after this walk. We will have just the thing for you when you get back to the Rec Hall ….FRITTERS!! Yum!! Don't miss this opportunity. Apply at Lot 53 today!!
Park Web Site
Those of you who have computers….don't forget to take a look at the Park web site occasionally. You will find pictures that have been taken around the Park of the various "going-ons". Star Weidman, Lot 25, is responsible for the Web site. It's looking better all the time, Star …. good job!
.......... Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
from both of us.
......... ’til next time … Reid & Mary
