We are closing in fast to the end of another “season” in Texas! Hard to believe. In just a few days, Mary and I will have been here four months. Why does it seem we only just got here? Do you suppose “age” has something to do with that? Don’t tell me if it is!
It has been somewhat different in the park this season. A lot of new folks this year …. seems more than usual …. have chosen our park for ’their’ park away from home. We are glad you made that decision and hope you will return for years to come.
Each year there are some who no longer can be with us. In most cases it is due to health reasons. It is important that new people take their place for several reasons. The main one, of course, is so the park can have operating capital. The other evening four of us were in another park. We arrived early and decided to drive up and down their streets to have something to do before the entertainment began. This is a large park. We could not believe the number of empty spots they had. This is not the only park we have visited that has empty spots. We are very fortunate that we were full again this year … thanks to those of you who are new, as well as those of you who continue making this your home year after year.
Have you noticed?
There is a beautiful mural on the shed at lot 86, Jerry and Ann Wicks lot. The mural was done by a very talented lady in our park….Janice Bailey. The bird houses were Jerry’s creations. This gives it a three dimensional effect.
Some other things you might find interesting that Janice has done at their place (lot 112) are the paintings on the concrete patio floor. Pretty neat.
Another artist has painted a mural on the end wall of their “add-on” room. Ask Vern Young, lot 3, to show it to you. It is a scene typical of this area where we spend the winters. Nice job, Vern.
75 attend Valentine Dinner
This was another very successful event. Food was excellent, thanks to Harriet & Dave Kahl, lot 23, who volunteered to do the cooking since the regular crew of Canadians were off on a boat trip. This meant new servers had to be recruited also. Some were picked right out of the audience….one was even a “visitor” in the park! A big thank you to all who helped make this a great dinner.
Survey Results
Each of us were given a sheet with suggestions on how the Activity Fund money could be used. A high percentage of these sheets were turned in. The results of this survey was posted on the bulletin board. If some of you didn’t get a chance to see it, the most votes received was for the solar cover and reel for the pool. In second place was Wi-Fi for the park. In case you haven’t heard, the Wi-Fi should be up and running in the very near future. As for the solar cover and reel for the pool, several pool companies have been contacted and the office is awaiting their estimates.

"Kind" Words from Carol
"We always knew there were caring and generous people here in Val's Kountry Corral, After receiving gifts, food, rides and lots of prayers, our burdens have been lifted. In deep appreciation."
Lee & Carol Findora
A Phone Recording message …
“I am not available right now, but thank you for caring enough to call. I am making some changes in my life. Please leave a message after the beep. If I do not return your call, you are one of the changes.
Something I overlooked Last Month
I received a note around the first of January from Jerry & Emily Edmund, lot 58, that they wanted me to run in the January Newsletter. Here is where old age comes in handy….I misplaced it and didn’t find it until the Newsletter was printed. So, with just a slight change, here it is.
“Hi Mary and Reid, we have been enjoying the Round-up. In the next issue will you insert the following message, please. Jerry’s back surgery is healing well, but he must wear a brace until around the first of March. He had some complications that sent him back to the hospital twice, but now has them under control. What a thrill it has been to get the get-well wishes, signed by so many of you in the Park! We don’t expect to get down this season, but are looking forward to seeing all the regulars and meeting the “new-comers” next fall. We are keeping warm in Wisconsin, but a day doesn’t go by that we don’t think of Texas and all you folks!
Big Bingo Winner
The “progressive” bingo pot was won by Eleanor LaCroix, lot 97. The amount was $171.25! A nice pot to win!

Hot Dog Party
Many attended the annual Hot Dog day this year. There was plenty of food for everyone, and as usual, it was all very good. The weather cooperated …. yes, it was a little windy. But, it didn’t seem near as windy at the “Ponderosa”, probably due to the trees and foliage around the edge of this area.

50/50 Winner
Ticket sales were very good this time around. Total dollars: $314.00. The winner, of course, got half of that. Oh….the winners were Joe & Jeanne Andrews, lot 96. Congratulations!!
Money Machine Visits VKC
The Texas State Bank has been coming to the Park for several years. They always bring along their “money machine”. For those of you who have never seen this, it is about the size of the old phone booths we used to have in the downtown area of cities. They put several bills in the booth and a person stands inside. They turn on a high powered fan that blows the money up towards the top of the booth. The idea is for the person to see how much they can snatch before the fan is turned off, which is about 19 seconds. Whatever they are able to catch, they can keep. (Look at this season’s photo album next year. There will be some pictures of those that had a chance this year.) The best “grabber” this time was Ruth White, lot 8. She made off with $80.00!

ADIOS AMIGOS - VAYA CON DIOS FROM THE STAFF OF VAL'S KOUNTRY CORRAL
This 2007-2008 winter season is drawing to a close and this is our last chance in THE ROUNDUP to give you a farewell message. All the members of the staff would like to express our appreciation and thanks to y’all for being here, helping out and having fun. The goal of the staff is for all of the people here to be “happy campers” in the “Best Little RV Park in Texas”. All of you are what make this park what it is. We are very grateful to have you as residents. Each one of you contribute to the park in your own special and important ways and have provided many memories for us. We can only hope your stay was enjoyable and memorable. “HAPPY TRAILS TO YOU” on your journey home. Please have a safe trip and we wish you the best of health and happiness. Please keep in touch this summer; we enjoy hearing from you. We hope that you have a great summer and hurry back for another season. NEXT SEASON IS “COMING SOON“!
Another season in the Valley is coming to an end. This is the time of year when our hearts are touched with a tang of sadness, for we will miss the camaraderie of others. However, at the same time we also feel happiness, for we look forward to seeing friends and relatives whom we haven’t seen in several months. The most important thing I can say to you now is drive carefully so we can do this all over again next season.
......... ’til next season, Reid & Mary
