Time is running out!!! But, it seems we just got here a month or so ago!! I guess when you are busy running here and there, volunteering for various things in the Park, and just having fun….the time does fly by! Already there have been a half dozen people leave the park and this is only the 9th of March. I know of three that are leaving this coming week…guess I had better get busy and get this Newsletter out as fast as I can!
I do want to say to all the new people who have been with us this season for the first time…..we are happy that you chose our Park and hope you find it to your liking and will return again next season. I know for a fact those who just moved here from another Park in the Valley will be with us again this next season.
To all of you ….have a safe trip home, a good summer, and we will look forward to seeing you this next season. I have said this several times….it’s like having “family” here as well as back home. It is always good to see those back home after being away for six months. But, come about September we start thinking about the Valley, and that it won’t be long before we get there to see our other “family”.
Hamilton's Resign
The big news around the Park had to be the resignation of the Hamilton’s. Lee and Kathy had been the managers of the Park for the last three years. Prior to that they had been Assistant Managers for two years. This is not an easy job, as some of you in the Park know. It is not a job I would ever want. Have you ever tried to satisfy over 200 people? Sorry, but it can’t be done. Therefore, you will always have some that will disagree. I don’t want to scare you … Star and Wally …. after all, you have some experience in this type of operation and would agree, I’m sure. I wish you both the best in this new position.
Soup & Sandwich/Boogieman
A new “event” for the Park. This turned out to be very successful, with 60 plus people attending! This was where they used the bones of the turkey and made turkey soup, and the meat left from the ham (this was saved from the Christmas meal) and added it to the split pea soup. The sandwiches were egg salad and ham salad. Don, the “boogieman” showed videos of performers from various eras. Music was from the 40’s, 50’s, 60’s…..big band and western. Some of this music got a few up to dance. Pictures will be included in the Photo Album covering this season. You will want to be sure and see them!
Birds of a feather flock together and poop on your car.
Pancake Breakfast
Approximately 40 people attended the last pancake breakfast. The next one is scheduled for Saturday March 28. Time: 7:30-9:00 a.m.
50/50 Winner
The lucky person of the last 50/50 draw was Harold LaCroix. The amount for the winner was $168.00. Not only did he win this but he also won in the Super Bowl pool!! How lucky can you get??
Super Bowl Winners
First Quarter: Wally Power, lot 92. $100.00.
Halftime: Floyd Voltz, lot 107. $100.00
3rd Quarter: Harold Lacroix, lot 97. $100.00
Final: Willie Schmidt, lot 98. $200.00.
If you think there is good in everybody, you haven’t met everybody.
Did you ever notice: The Roman Numerals for forty (40) are XL.
The older we get, the fewer things seem worth waiting in line for.
Raz-Ma-Taz
A nice crowd enjoyed the show put on by a group of young boys and girls who have been entertaining people in the Valley for a number of years. This show covered songs from many of the Broadway hits.
As many of you know, I try and cover as many events as possible that we have during the season, recording it with a camera. This was no exception. I’m standing close to the door into the office, shooting pictures of the group as they performed. I noticed this one girl moving over to the side of the room where I was standing, mike in hand, singing as if she was singing to the audience in front of her. The next thing I knew she was standing by me, her arm around me … singing to me! Fortunately, no one got a picture! But, there is a little more to this story. The time before, when Raz-Ma-Taz was here with their Christmas show, I was approached by the gentleman that is in charge of the show. He asked me if I could suggest someone in the audience that would go along with being a part of one of the numbers they were singing. I pointed out a couple fellows in the audience and one of them happened to be Jim Rigby. Jim handled the part well. After all, he had several of the girls singing to him. How lucky can you get! I thought he would be delighted to be chosen. What I experienced was called “revenge”! Hey, guess I had it coming. However ….. forget it.
Valentine Dinner
Those eight folks from that country to the north of us can really put on a feast! I’m speaking about Jim and Doreen, Court and Marcie, Larry and Carolyn, and Lloyd and Bernice. We really should write a note to Chimney Park and thank them for letting these folks come and live in our Park! The entrée was Pork Roast with the trimmings and it was excellent. About 60 other people thought the same! Thanks “Canadians”. You’re a great bunch! Oops…almost forgot…Tom and Judy Luebke (Activity Director) were also very much involved in this event.

Ropa Usada Style Show
No men allowed, but three of us got in! My excuse was to shoot photos, Lee was the manager, and I really don’t know how the other fellow got in. It was really too bad they banned men because it was very entertaining. I am not going to go into detail as to all that happened. You can see many of the pictures in the Photo Album next fall!
Soup (dump) Dinner
This is something they did several years ago. Many of us, however, were enjoying this meal for the first time. Here is how it works. Everyone brings their own recipe for either chili or potato soup, then they dump it in a big vat where others have dumped theirs…thus the name soup “dump”. I decided to give the chili a try. But only a small dipper full to start with. I wasted no time going back for a full bowl of chili! Delicious! I even suggested to Judy that we should do this at least twice during next season!
You only need two tools in life…WD-40 and Duct tape. If it doesn’t move and should, use WD-40. If it shouldn’t move and does, use Duct tape.
Park Sale
The last Park Sale for this season was met with a drizzling rain. Something we haven’t had happen on sale day for several years. It didn’t last all morning and some people did show up to see what they could buy. In spite of the weather, the food stand contributed $100.00 to the activity fund.
Peter Piper Pizza
The last Pizza party will be Monday, Mar.16
at 5 p.m. Cost is $4.98 per person. See Bulletin Board for sign up sheet.
Sports Banquet
This event will be held at Logan’s Roadhouse in McAllen, Friday, March 20, 2:00 p.m. See bulletin board for sign up sheet.
“Progressive” Bingo Winner
The “progressive” bingo game went for several weeks before someone finally won it. That “someone” was Jerry Edmunds. The amount: $150.25. Jerry immediately announced that donuts and coffee would be free the following Saturday! A nice gesture, Jerry.

A police recruit was asked during the exam, “What would you do if you had to arrest your own mother”? He answered, “call for backup”.
